Annual Panopto conference in Denmark

Once a year, we invite you to a unique opportunity to network and exchange experiences and ideas with professionals working with Panopto, learning technology, and IT pedagogy.

We invite a number of inspiring speakers who work with the above on a daily basis. Each of them will talk about their experiences and issues related to the field. The purpose of the user conference is to:

  • Provide participants with concrete tools and ideas that they can take home and use in their future work.
  • Create a network/community and new relationships among professionals working with Panopto, learning technology, and IT pedagogy.

SmartLearning and educational videos

SmartLearning is an online educational institution with 30 years of experience, offering 150 online courses in areas such as IT, management, and marketing. Owned by all eight Danish business academies, SmartLearning focuses on flexible online education.

Jakob Hornbeck, coordinator and lecturer, uses videos to enhance teaching, including theory videos, video feedback, and weekly videos. These videos build relationships between teachers and students and offer flexibility, which is important for students with busy schedules.

SmartLearning uses Panopto to manage video content, providing structure and easy access to videos. Panopto integrates with Moodle, making it easy for teachers to add and manage videos directly on course pages and supporting live webcasts and on-demand videos.

ROCKWOOL retains and shares knowledge

ROCKWOOL, a manufacturer of stone wool solutions, uses Panopto to preserve knowledge from retiring employees. With Panopto, they can record and share complex expert knowledge that is difficult to document in writing.

Department manager Mogens Heine Larsen finds Panopto ideal for recording training videos and meetings, which are available globally via their LMS, FUSE. This allows employees to search for and retrieve information in multiple languages. Panopto has quickly become an important part of ROCKWOOL’s training programs and supports both onboarding and ongoing education. It allows employees to learn faster and effectively supplements physical courses.

Techcollege - Video on vocational training programs

TechCollege uses video and Panopto in vocational education to make theory more accessible to students who may struggle with traditional learning. Videos help hold students’ attention longer than reading material. Students and teachers find online teaching effective, as videos are easier to relate to than text. Panopto offers security and GDPR compliance, making it possible to share sensitive material safely. Students can quickly find and review material, which improves the learning process.

Teachers have adapted to using video in their teaching, even though it takes practice to stand in front of the camera. Video submissions are used to assess students’ skills, and Panopto supports this in a secure way. For Generation Z, videos are a natural part of teaching, as they are used to visual media such as Instagram and Snapchat. This makes video an effective tool in modern teaching methods.

CBS students embrace lecture capture

Since 2013, Copenhagen Business School (CBS) has been using Panopto to record lectures, which has helped students who were unable to attend in person. The use of lecture capture has increased significantly, and in 2015, viewing minutes tripled in some courses compared to the previous year. This has led CBS to consider whether there is a new generation of students who see online lectures as a natural part of their learning process.

Students appreciate lecture capture for several reasons:

  1. They cannot always attend lectures due to work, illness, or double bookings.
  2. The recordings help them prepare better for exams.
  3. They can control their learning pace and take notes again.
  4. Courses can be difficult, and recordings allow them to review complex topics.

Flexibility is a key theme in student feedback. Lecture capture allows them to balance work and study, attend lectures at their own time and pace, and manage overlapping courses. Students value this flexibility, especially when faced with time constraints.
